Our Roofing Story

Meet Our Founder, Jon Pritchard

I started in the roofing business in high school in 1976 in Northeast Ohio when I was 16. I worked during summer vacation starting as a laborer, eventually learning the trade, and working as an apprentice during breaks while going to college.

After college, I married my wife Debra and accepted her two children (Gabriel, 6, and Jessica 4) as my own. I continued to work in the field because I enjoyed the environment and the company I worked for. I was laid off for the winter in 1987 when my brother approached me to work with him in the cable TV contracting business. I decided to take him up on his offer since I wasn’t doing anything then.

I enjoyed the work; it was much less taxing on the body. Through a friend of my brothers, we joined a company out of Polk City, Iowa. My family was relocated to the Cape Cod, MA, area where we were stationed for about six years. At that time, I applied my college education to manage crews and run regional projects along the east coast. Starving to get back to my Midwest roots, I requested a transfer.

Then, I started system rebuild projects in the Missouri and Kansas area. I relocated my family to Kansas City in 1994. My children were now in high school and at the age where my presence was more needed. After a year of living in the KC area, I again requested that I be centrally located where I was home every day and not living out of a suitcase and being just a weekend dad.

The company moved me to central Iowa, where I can work from their Human Resources and Marketing office. My wife and I purchased our first home in Boone, IA, in a medium-sized community about 30 minutes from our office.

After a couple of years and the owner’s lack of interest in the cable business, they closed their doors in March of 1996. I started putting a resume together, and with what severance pay I received (pickup truck, ladder, computer), I produced a flyer looking for roofing jobs in our town of Boone.

At the time, there were only one, if not two, companies in the area and a need. I quickly had some responses to the flyers, and after doing a couple of jobs, word of mouth began to spread. I saw the market, and I capitalized on it. I soon had to hire and train help to comply with my increasing workload.

The business took off, eventually having multiple crews running and expanding our areas of expertise to the siding, gutters, windows, doors, fences, and decks. The whole exterior remodel package. The industry had trended this way.

We have been in business for 27 years and bring over 40 years of experience. Servicing Central Iowa (Boone, Story, Greene, Polk, and Dallas counties) We have always kept up to date on new and improved products and new and innovative ways of practice in the industry. And, with a loyal and dedicated staff, we will continually grow in the future.
